Story
: I must have spent ten Octobers driving around canyons of the Eastern Sierra searching for a pond with striking autumn leaves and never found one. The one in our Bishop yard came close, but there were holes in the composition because there were never enough leaves. On one of those amazing October days, the maple and elm trees in our front yard were “on fire”. As my son collected tons of leaves on his way to school, a light went off in my head. I would damn the pond to increase the water level and then float Dylan’s leaves down from upstream until they filled in the entire frame! I waited until everything was in the shade and used a slight (300mm) telephoto lens to flatten the composition. This was unique for me. I typically shoot what I see and have seldom “manufactured” a composition.
