I had tried this image for quite some time. Some attempts failed to work because the light was not quite right. In other attempts, there was a great challenge in getting the proper focus because this particular alignment of the high arch in the foreground does not favor large format photography. On this particular trip to the Alabama Hills, I invited Galen Rowell to come photograph with me. At that time, he had not yet moved to Bishop or opened his Gallery there. With both of our busy lives, it was a rare to actually get out together. We had a wonderful time on the drive to Lone Pine. The light on this morning was particularly exquisite and we both had great results with our cameras.
