StoryAfter leading an intensive 4-day workshop in Bishop, I was driving home when the phone rang. My plans to have dinner in Mammoth with Margaret for my 50th birthday were about to change. My lovely, adorable, gorgeous wife tricked me into checking out the colors at June Lake with her. She’d secretly packed for a night’s stay at the Double Eagle and arranged for a massage and dinner. I first made this image early in the morning. Later at around 10:30, I realized I could capture these trees in open shade with bounced lighting from the opposite canyon wall. That is why you see the luminous bright colors of bright direct sunlight without the inky shadows and washed out highlights often associated with bright sun. Lens: 90 mm shows the complete curvature of the Creek & most trees.
