Story: In May, 2005, my son and I skied a 55-mile trans-Sierra line from Southern Yosemite to Mammoth over 6 grueling days. Dylan is a responsible and most enjoyable mountaineering partner. He loves the mountains, goes hard with a heavy pack, cooks, and being quite knowledgeable about maps and cross-country lines, contributes intelligently. We were so taken by the magic of the area that we resolved to return come summer. This high Twin Island Lake is located in the Upper North Fork of the San Joaquin River, a spectacular wild and remote area of the Sierra Nevada - hard to get to and seldom visited. All travel in the North Fork of the San Joaquin is very rough cross-country. 2005 was a huge snow year. On our summer return, we found our May campsite 35 feet above ground!!
