Story: I have made many attempts to photograph Bear Creek Spire in Rock Creek Canyon over the years. There is an image from 1997, from almost exactly the same location as this, and it has been successful. I taught a workshop in 2005 which featured this location as the the last morning shoot, a "Piece de Résistance" of the weekend. My students were thrilled with their images, and I resolved to return myself later in the year. I believe this photograph to be close but maybe I can do better! This lake is part of "Little Lakes Valley". The lakes run north to south, which precludes early light from reaching down into the canyon. It is a difficult place to work, but maybe one of these days I will be there at just the right time at the right location.
