Story: This is another image that seemed to take years to realize. The location is quite a drive from our home in the eastern Sierra. This composition is only possible late each Autumn past the first of November. One has to wait until then, have the Glacier Point road still open, and in our case Tioga Pass as well. Other complicating factors include the National Park Service policy of "controlled burns" which are usually still burning in November. And California's ubiquitous air pollution problems add to the difficulties as well. This was my third attempt over a period of ten years or so, and by now I knew exactly how to set up the photograph. The light only lasted for seconds since there was a bank of clouds and haze to the west, and I was forced to guess at the exposure!
