07-17 Story: Early
in my career I made many unsuccessful trips up Little Lakes Valley with
my camera. Though various lakes with a backdrop of Bear Creek Spire
offer many inspirational vistas, it is a difficult place to
photograph. The valley runs north and south with high mountains
along each side, making it tough to find the early or late lighting
that works photographically. I was at Heart Lake earlier this
particular November morning and was on my way back to the car when I
happened by Grass Lake. It was a cold morning, and frozen ice
around the lake’s edges enabled me to walk out to the spot I
wanted. Using a three-stop soft split filter, I was delighted to
produce a successful image on my first attempt at this particular
composition.
