Story:  During autumn, the Merced River near Fern Spring is one of the most beautiful gems in Yosemite Valley. Many photographers will spend their entire visit along the river here. Every autumn for years, I would spend several days chasing light to determine the exact moment that would capture what takes place in this wonderful spot.  Even with years of observing, predicting when the light will be just “right” for a given composition remains elusive because the sun peaks in and out of the cliffs near Dewey Point.  Just a few minutes before I made this exposure, this spot was almost completely sunlit.  The demarcation line between shadow and sunlight was just a few feet away from the camera. Most assuredly, I will return, yet again, next autumn to wait and watch.
