Story:  The dogwoods which line both the Fresno and San Francisco roads into Yosemite area wonderful. In late Spring they produce miles upon miles of beautiful delicate white flowers. And in the Autumn the leaves turn brilliant red before the onset of winter, This particular grove is just below Crane Flat on Highway 120. I scouted the area in the morning, and then returned just before the sun set into the Ponderosa Pines to the  west. Usually any kind of direct sunlight on the "Elliot Porter" idea of intimate landscapes, such as small areas of changing colors, is a mistake. My idea was to make a photograph with soft light in the dogwoods, and including the warm afternoon sun just leaving the background woods.
