09-4 Story: Late spring of 2009 was very wet and stormy in the High Sierra. I made several trips to Tuolumne Meadows in those weeks. This day was misty all afternoon, but at the last second the clouds parted to the west. The wonderful orange yellow light called "alpenglow" occurs when the sun is low in the horizon. Light travels further through the atmosphere which then filters out all the blue the light. A very clear day after a storm works even better! This is one situation where I was able to realize a good photograph in one trip to a given location. I had briefly scouted this spot a few days earlier, and then drove back with my daughter, Sabrina. The camera was all set-up, and the magic alpenglow appeared right on schedule at 8:08 in th evening.
