Story:  Chasm Lake and the Enchanted Gorge exist deep inside the Goddard Divide within Sierra Nevada's Kings Canyon National Park.  With flashy blue Chasm Lake nestled at the top of the Gorge, Disappearing Creek descends 5,000 ft to the Middle Fork of the Kings River in a scant four rugged miles.  Descending the trailless Gorge in 1974, I beheld this breathtaking view over the Monarch Divide and as far as the Kaweahs and Sequoia National Park.  On an 8-day trip with my son in 2009, my 4x5 camera and improved photography skills, I stood in this exact spot 35 years later.  Using Ansel Adams' "pre-exposure technique" to lighten the deep shadow in the upper left corner and a split neutral-density filter, memories of my entire 50-year mountain career seemed integrated into the moment I pressed the shutter.
